A first application close to home.

TICK-BORNE PATHOGEN TESTING

Lyme disease is a growing threat as blacklegged ticks expand into new regions. We’re developing a rapid, point-of-care test for Borrelia burgdorferi, the primary cause of Lyme disease in the U.S. The kit tests removed ticks on site, without mailing specimens to a laboratory. Our goal is to empower outdoor lovers to have informed conversations with their doctors about exposure and symptoms, while supporting antibiotic stewardship through appropriate antibiotic use guided by clinical assessment.

A proud Buffalo tradition.

Buffalo Niagara has a long tradition of turning scientific ambition into practical progress. We’re proud to build NiagaraBio here.

  1. 1895–1896 · POWER Historic hydroelectric generators inside the Adams power plant

    Harnessing Niagara Falls

The Adams hydroelectric power plant opened in 1895 and began supplying electricity to Buffalo in 1896, helping power a new era of American industry.

  2. 1898 · DISCOVERY Historic laboratory photograph of two researchers working with glassware

    A first in cancer research

Founded in Buffalo in 1898, Roswell Park became the world’s first institution devoted exclusively to cancer research.

  3. 1901 · POSSIBILITY Illuminated buildings at the Pan-American Exposition at night

    A world’s fair, illuminated

Buffalo’s 1901 Pan-American Exposition showcased emerging technologies, including X-ray imaging and electric lighting powered by Niagara Falls.

  4. 1960 · MEDICAL INNOVATION Nuclear-powered Medtronic cardiac pacemaker, circa 1973

    A breakthrough in cardiac pacing

In 1960, Buffalo researchers designed and tested the first commercially produced implantable pacemaker. In 1972, Buffalo VA helped evaluate nuclear-powered pacemakers.

  5. 1997 · GENOMICS Roswell Park advertisement seeking 20 volunteers for the Human Genome Project

Buffalo’s place in the human genome

Buffalo volunteers supplied much of the DNA used for the original human genome sequence. Roswell Park researchers prepared that DNA for sequencing, contributing to a global scientific effort.

Proudly made in the Buffalo Niagara region. American made.
